The Export Tools API can be used when exporting products overseas from Australia:
The classification API allows you to look up products and retrieve the correct HS tariff code and the commodity UUID.
The HS tariff code can be added to international shipments. This is currently optional for all countries, however some countries are planning to make this a mandatory import requirement in future.
The commodity UUID is required to retrieve the export information related to the product, via the combined export tool API. You can pre-classify your products and store the commodity UUID for future combined export API calls.
As the merchant it is your legal responsibility to ensure that the correct classification and tariff codes are used.
The combined export tool API allows you to generate an estimation of the landed costs that are due when the shipment arrives in the destination country, along with any prohibitions and/or restrictions that apply to the products in the shipment. This information can be presented as part of the checkout process when your customers are buying goods. Prices are returned in both the source and destination currency.
The commodity UUID from the classification API is required by the combined export tool to retrieve the correct export information.
When retrieving the duty and tax information for products using the combined export tool, the weight or volume field is conditionally required. The expected value will either be a weight (grams) or a volume (millilitres) as outlined below.
